Here at Creative Corridors, we were thrilled to see that Walter Hood, the landscape architect designing The Peter Oliver Pavilion Gallery, is featured in the October Innovators issue of the Wall Street Journal Magazine. The Peter Oliver Pavilion Gallery will be the first public space in Winston-Salem to tell the story of Oliver, an enslaved man who, through ingenuity and perseverance, was able to sign the documents for his own freedom. It’s a story that needs to be told and one that Walter Hood has embraced. Hood believes that landscape architecture is about more than trees and benches but also about the thoughts and feelings that ground us. He believes space can embrace sorrow but also be a celebration.
