Walter Hood

Principal of Hood Design Studio

Among his many accolades and recognitions, North Carolina-native Hood was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 2019 and is a 2009 recipient of the prestigious Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Landscape Design. He was a 1997 winner of the Rome Prize and was recently a selected winner for the Venice Biennale. Notable completed projects include Splash Pad Park in Oakland, CA, the MH deYoung Museum in San Francisco and the Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia. Winston-Salem’s Strollway Pedestrian Bridge is soon to be added to the list.

Donald MacDonald

Principal of Donald MacDonald Architects

Until he was commissioned for the Business 40 Project, MacDonald was best known for designing three of the nation’s most noted bridge structures: the Cooper River Bridge in Charleston, SC; The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, San Francisco, CA; and the retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge. Most recently, he is the visionary behind Tilikum Crossing, the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Portland, Oregon.

 

Design Workshop

Under the direction of project manager Glenn Walters, Creative Corridors Coalition hired Design Workshop in 2011 to conduct both an intensive public engagement process and to create the Visionary Master Plan and Design Guidelines that will influence the landscape of Winston-Salem for generations.
